Kneipp-Basin

Sebastian Kneipp
Sebastian Kneipp revolutionized naturopathy in the 19th century. He cured with short baths in the cold water his own severe tuberculosis, which at this time, was thought to of as being incurable. After his recovery he began to study the effects of cold water and its curing effect on selected plants. The result of his long time studies and feasibility treatment test results was his visionary concept for life with timeless uses. In view of increasing environmental pollution and stress-related diseases in today’s civilization people need more intense rituals for natural well being and active health care. For Sebastian Kneipp this included regular exercises, good nutrition, and a balanced mental heath. His name does not only stand for scientifically proofed naturopathic products and treatments  but it stands also for holistic lifestyle.

"Everything we need to stay healthy, has been plentifully given to us by nature"
Sebastian Kneipp

Thermarium offers two totally different types of basin designs for "water stepping" which is known as the most effective of the Kneipp treatments. It is possible to install a corridor style Kneipp-basins or the space saving round Kneipp. In both designs the basins are made to step in from one basin to another with alternating cold water and warm water basins. Successively arranged for one to easily step from one to another (approximately 30 to 40 steps per water basin treatment). One lifts one leg entirely out of the water, with one’s toes bended downwards then lowering it into the water again. Water drips off the legs (not towelled dry) and the legs are alternatively warmed up and cooled down by walking in the Kneipp basins. A redness of the calves is a good sign showing that the vascular system is reacting. Regular treatments using Kneipp basins increase the body's defences against varicose veins, stimulate the circulation, and stimulate the blood circulation.

"I would like to know which disease can or can not invade easily into a sissified state, where a hardened one does not have the slightest problem in doing so. I affirm that the effeminacy opens the gates for many diseases."
Sebastian Kneipp, “My Will”, 1895

A variation from the water stepping is the use of "Water jet nozzles". This is not a basin filled with water; rather water is sprayed across the basin at the height of the calves. The advantage of this system is the low water consumption and no need for a water treatment to cool water for the cold water and to warm water for warm water use because the water is not standing in the basin. The water jet nozzles are only activated if a guest enters the Kneipp-basin.
