Care Instructions for Granite

export as PDF

General Description:
Granites (Latin origin Granum, “grain”) are massive, relative coarsely crystalline, magmatic plutonic rocks, which are rich in quartz and feldspar, and dark minerals, like mica. Granites have, due to the high resistibility, hardness, and weatherproofness and due to the good grindability and polishability, a great commercial relevance for the building industry.

Cleaning:
Normal household cleaning agent, dissolved in the cleaning water, may be used for the cleaning of granite. It is possible to treat tenacious stains, depending on the degree and kind of staining, with descaler and fat solvent without damaging the polished surface. These cleaning agents have to be used cautiously, and may be tested on a not visible area. Please contact the chemical industry for special cleaning agents if you have not definable or very tenacious stains. Please do not use too aggressive agents for the natural stone, as these products are either good for the natural stone nor for your health.

Product care:
Granites may be cleaned with normal household cleaning agents, whether slightly acidic or fat-dissolving. It should be wiped, like every slightly absorbing natural stone, with stone soap in regular intervals. This should be done with all surfaces, no matter if polished or rough. Polished surfaces may be repolished with a woolen cloth or a polishing machine to intensify the polish.

Time Interval:
The cleaning may take place every day.
The product care may take place once a month.

Safety related Details:
